M.Sc. in Vedic Sciences and other post-graduate programs from MIT IIKS are designed to groom the next generation of ambassadors of Vedic Sciences, who can study and authentically articulate the Indic scientific tradition, and bridge the gap between Indian and modern scientific discourse. The objective is to specifically groom a generation of experts who can perform independent and application-oriented study of Vedic concepts for modern times.
IIKS’ strategy is to impart Vedic Science education at a level more suited to modern audience. Instead of focusing on deep shaastra expertise, IIKS has designed its curriculum and programs to familiarize modern students with the methods used in Vedic Sciences and equip them with sufficient foundational knowledge and interpretative skills to enable practical application, further study and research.
Knowledge of relevant aspects of Vedic Sciences is increasingly being valued in many mainstream careers, which enables a person to look at any issue holistically leading to sustainable outputs.
- Multi-disciplinary R&D – Several opportunities at IITs and institutions abroad for Indic science experts
- Teaching – Growing number of universities (especially outside India) looking for faculty that can teach both modern and ancient perspectives comparatively
- Consultancy – Management, counseling, executive coaching, construction, aesthetic design, etc.
A growing number of individuals worldwide, both Indians and others, are fascinated by the Sanskrit language, partly due to their cultural affinity and partly due to Sanskrit’s importance for studying Yoga, Āyurveda, spirituality and other Indian sciences. After learning basic Sanskrit, they like to get a working knowledge of the literary, spiritual and scientific literature in that language, and hence look for a formal master’s degree that is well-recognized for further career options. They also prefer to use that knowledge to apply it in modern contexts.
However, many of them are working professionals or homemakers for whom it is not convenient to physically attend a regular university ecosystem full-time. Though several universities offer M.A. in Sanskrit through distance learning mode, the logistics and bureaucracy involved therein present major hurdles to passionate individuals in pursuing it. Finally, their syllabus does not offer the new breed of students with the choice that they wish to pursue in specific fields in an application-oriented manner. Today, Sanskrit is primarily taught in universities as a literary language; but not as a medium for Indic scientific studies. The master’s programs offered by MIT IIKS and HUA aim to get over these lacunae.
